Applying leading-edge speech technology to government and military applications.

Today’s military and commercial aircraft are becoming more sophisticated and requir increased availability of qualified and experienced aircraft maintenance technicians requiring increased training time. Along with increased complexity, the sustainment costs are growing.

To address these cha lenges, Cobalt is developing a family of Job Performance Aids for technicians and maintainers that incorporates its core speech technologies – speech recognition in noisy environments with unique vocabularies, natural language understanding, dialogue management, and text-to-speech.

By combining the power of its Conversational AI with Augmented Reality technology, Cobalt can provide technicians with a smooth transition from the Schoolhouse, with its unique courseware, 3D models, and instructional videos, to the Flight Line, where voice enabled hands-free access to up-to-date technical information is needed for maintenance and inspection activities.

Use Case

Government
& Military

Cobalt is working with the Air Force Global Strike Command to develop a Virtual Maintenance and Training Assistant (VMTA) for the B-52H Stratofortress. The VMTA uses a closed-domain Conversational Artificial Intelligence (CAI) platform and adaptable Knowledge Graph (KG) to store up-to-date technical information along with notes and tips dictated by the technicians. The VMTA ingests the up-to-date Technical Orders (TOs) and provides technicians in the Schoolhouse and on the flight line natural language hands-free access to the information whe and where they need it. On the flight line, the VMTA will act as an “over-the-shoulder” virtual assistant and mentor that can answer a technician’s questions while accessing the latest technical information, TOs, coursework, 3D models, and instructional videos.

Cobalt designs its job performance aids to streamline the training process, increase efficiency, and improve the accuracy of maintenance and repair activities. By providing maintenance technicians with hands-free access to information and instructions, we help them focus on the
task at hand and complete their work with improved speed and precision, reducing downtime and costs and ensuring workforce readiness.
